Career sabotage

I have had the pleasure of sitting on the interview panel, being interviewed myself, and coaching others in getting their dream job.  I feel privaleged, and frustrated.

I get so frustrated that so many quality candidates don’t put themselves forward due to self sabotaging beliefs, or stories they tell themselves.

Now I won’t lie, when putting together a job profile or advert, I am like a kid in a candy store.  I write up my wish list and before I know it, I have created a job for someone that doesn’t exist.  Sure, I then cut a few skills and experience requirements to make it slightly more realistic, but the ideal candidate is never really the person you expect.

So my challenge to you all is to remember that the skills and experience are often an employers wish list.  Your CV might get you the interview, but your passion, drive, determination and personality will get you the job.  Afterall, it’s not just what you do, it’s how you do it.

So be unique, be yourself and be confident in what you can bring to the role, not just skills, but what makes you YOU.
