The importance of authenticity and integrity

During the MySelf step, you begin to lead with authenticity and integrity. That simply means that your thoughts, feelings and actions are completely aligned, you’re not being fake. It means dropping the ego and developing character and presence.

Authenticity

Integrity

Whether you are leading thousands or focusing on being the leader of your own life, the starting point is always with you. In fact, the only consistent thing in your life is you. You change teams, jobs, projects, and you take you with you. Take the best version of yourself where ever you go.

"When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’"

John Lennon

The truth is that in the Western world we still judge others on what they do rather than who they are. Ask someone to tell you something about themselves and you’ll probably hear all about what they do, not who they are. Yet most interesting people talk about what motivates them, their story or their passions. We are drawn in and want to know more – they have charisma.

LeaderX has seen past leaders be fake or wear masks, and as a result, they didn’t respect them.

  • They hold integrity and authenticity in high regard and try to embody those values in their own leadership.
  • They do the work, so they know who they are, what they believe in and how they behave.
  • They are comfortable taking off the mask and being real.
  • They do vulnerability and are comfortable telling their story, no matter how many ups and downs they have had, because they know that they have grown from their failures.

By leading without integrity and authenticity you will receive low levels of trust, respect and influence as a leader.

During the MySelf step, I worked with clients either one to one or in a coaching relationship, or during a leadership programme. The tools and exercises I will share with you are examples of how I help leaders to reconnect with their purpose, vision and values. I will help you to identify your strengths and skills and accept your weaknesses, but it’s down to you to do something about them.
