I hate to say it, but most leaders skip this step. The result is short-term thinking and self-preserving behaviours. Without building the strong foundations to deliver the longer-term strategy and purpose, you are simply building a house of sand. When I worked at Npower it became a standing joke that with each new CEO (generally every 3 years), a whole new strategy and purpose would be unveiled, so don’t get too comfortable. Short-termism leads to a lack of bold decisions, lack of vision and lack of investment in future proofing the company.
Why invest for something in 5 years when you might not even be around?

In my experience, by doing the MyLegacy step, the leader becomes loved and respected, both while they are in a role, and a leader of legend long after.
They are creating stability and security whilst innovating and driving performance.
They focus on laying foundations of strength and building people up around them.
They start with the end in mind and make better decisions to have a bigger, bolder and better impact on their people, communities and the world around them.
They become the leader of legends, the one everyone remembers for the right reasons.
