One of the key elements of emotional intelligence

Once you develop your self-awareness and you understand that you are responsible for your own life, your whole outlook on life will shift. And on your journey to become LeaderX, you will need to enhance your ability to manage how you feel, think and act. This is known as emotional intelligence (EQ) and it is a top 5 desirable skill for leaders.

Let’s look into these 3 questions:

What is emotional intelligence?

Why is it so important?

What role does self-awareness play in the development of your emotional intelligence?

Goleman (2001) defines emotional intelligence as the cluster of abilities that allow us to recognise and regulate emotions in ourselves and others.

How it Works

When you develop your emotional intelligence, you reap the benefits as this represents the backbone of that understanding that sustains team building, productivity, morale and many others.

And if you’re looking to build your emotional intelligence, you have to acknowledge that self-awareness is the first step. Only when you become self-aware, you will increase your self-regulation, improve your social skills and become more empathetic and motivated.

Remember

By doing the inner work, you will be confident with the person you are and won’t feel the need to hide anymore or pretend to be something you’re not.

Your decision making will become congruent with your vision and values and everything becomes easier. There is no downside. You are going to care more about yourself, others and the world around you.
