This is an important question to ask on your journey to self-awareness. This chapter will give you the chance to find out how to boost your self-awareness through feedback, reflection and coaching, and you will be provided with the tools and ideas to start developing yourself. But where do you start?
Seek feedback. Even though it is uncomfortable, LeaderX puts feedback smack bang in the middle of the table. You have to do this with kindness, clarity and empathy, but don’t beat around the bush. When feedback becomes the normal way of doing things, your people will be encouraged to give direct, peer-to-peer feedback that is forward-focused, timely and motivating.
Your people's feedback has an important role in enhancing your self-awareness.
Let's consider the Blind spot in the Johari's Window once more.
â—‹ Wouldn't it be extraordinary to see yourself through other people's eyes?
â—‹ How else could you improve something you're unaware of?
Getting feedback from those whom you work with is an excellent way to instantly discover your strengths and weaknesses so you can decide afterwards how to build up on them or improve them. This is your chance to understand yourself and act upon it.
Benefits of getting 360-degree feedback
When you seek feedback through a 360 review, you will get the motivation to become the best leader and, therefore, you will start building on that foundation to develop yourself. This objective information will allow you to discover how you’re perceived by the others around you and, ultimately, boost your self-awareness.
Some ideas to consider in your 360-degree feedback:
Leader’s Lunches.
Monthly sessions where yourself, as a leader, invite a group of 8-12 people to simply dive into a topic or issue. Open discussions are key at this stage.
Apps or tech.
Using tech to get feedback is easy and cheap. You can use online surveys to get real-time thoughts and ideas. Encourage everyone to take part in this.
