D is for Dominance

Those with a dominant style focus on getting results fast, often focusing on short term gains over long term strategic aims. They make up their minds quickly, often autonomously and then move straight to action. This can mean that sometimes they act first and think later. They don't mind taking risks and can be bold and some might say fool hardy. The outcome is that they get things done, solve problems along the way and keep momentum going.

They are motivated by competition, even if it's just against themselves. They challenge themselves to be better, faster, stronger, more successful. This can be exhausting  to be around at times and they can be hard on themselves if they feel like they have failed. They love a goal, target or challenge and like to be in competitive teams or environments. When they are in the position of leader (which they like), they will create challenge and competition. In conflict, their natural preference is to win, sometimes damaging relationships.

Fears

Loss of control. As autonomous, self-reliant decision makers, they don’t like feeling like they are out of control. When they do, they make decisions and take power over others to regain control. This might appear aggressive, blunt or intimidating.

Being taken advantage of. They do not suffer fools gladly, and they don’t like to be fooled. If they feel they have been manipulated or used, it can knock their self-esteem and drive them to be even more bold and competitive.

Vulnerability. The ego is dominant with D’s, as such they fear appearing weak, needing help or failing. This means that they can become forceful, closed and appear machine like.

Clear Traits

Self confidence - D styles seem confident. They push through doubts and stand with their head held high. They walk with purpose and have presence.

Directness - They keep their communication to the point and don't have time for small talk and passing the time of day. They will get straight to the point and appear impatient with those who take their time.

Forcefulness - Because they like to keep moving, have drive and focus on action, they can sometimes appear to be forceful and have lack of concern for others. They are single minded in their pursuits and can often lack empathy for others,

C/D styles

Those who also have a Conscientious style will have many of the attributes of the D style. They are also value personal accomplishment, common sense, high standards and determination.

When under pressure they can be over challenging and critical. This might come across as being negative or blocking, but they are just trying to get to the truth.

D/i styles

Those with iD or Di styles are action orientated and come across as being fast paced and bold. They love new opportunities and can grow bored easily, often flitting from one new idea to the next.

They are enthusiastic, fun to be around and often charismatic. They set the direction and excite others to follow. However, their impatience and always moving style can lead others to feel out of control and unstable.
